HIGHLAND Runs For Cansearch

Fergal Mullen, co-founder and partner at Highland Europe, has succeeded in running 7 marathons in 7 days on 7 continents. This was a monumental effort that required Fergal to dig deep and one of the things that kept him going was thinking of the patients at the HUG oncology unit and the marathon they face every day.

Running a marathon is a lifetime achievement for many, but for Fergal, an avid runner, it was only the beginning. Over the course of a grueling seven days, Fergal ran seven marathons on seven continents—a breathtaking feat that pushed physical and mental limits while raising funds for the CANSEARCH Foundation, a charity dedicated to fighting childhood cancer.

The ambitious challenge, a bucket list dream for Fergal, began on 14 November on the icy terrain of Wolf’s Fang in Antarctica. From there, he dashed across time zones and continents, running marathons in Cape Town, South Africa (15 November), Perth, Australia (16 November), Istanbul, Europe (17 November), Istanbul, Asia (18 November), Cartagena, South America (19 November), and finally crossing the finish line in Miami, North America on 20 November.

For Fergal, the mission was more than just an athletic accomplishment. During each marathon, he drew strength from the stories of children battling cancer. “These kids face a marathon every single day,” Fergal said. “Their courage and resilience kept me going, even when my body wanted to give up.”

The funds raised through his extraordinary effort will support research and treatments for children dealing with cancer and the often debilitating side effects of therapy. Fergal’s achievement not only highlights the power of determination but also shines a spotlight on the importance of supporting those who are in the fight of their lives.

From the frigid cold of Antarctica to the sunny shores of Miami, Fergal’s journey is a testament to the heights that can be achieved with passion, purpose, and perseverance.
